New Orleans or N’Awlins as pronounced by aficionados was the host city for the American Academy of Forensic Science 2017 conference. With attendees upwards of 4000 at the Hyatt Regency Downtown, this year’s event offered energetic experiences both in and especially outside the conference. Long referred to as “The Big Easy”, the city’s famous French Quarter with the start of Mardis Gras festivities was just around the corner.
Before the start of the exhibitor period of the show, we took time to visit our latest Lodox customer to order a system in Jefferson Parrish Coroner. Just a few minutes from downtown New Orleans. They are in the process of expanding their property and upgrading their X-ray suite.
With our rapidly growing NA Forensic customer base, our imaging solution has become a staple among both high volume and even smaller offices. A private office in Pennsylvania called Forensic DX provides Medico-Legal investigations and autopsies for the many rural coroner areas with limited access to large facilities. A staple visitor to our booth, Forensic DX’s Pathology Assistant Angalena Hargreaves uses the Lodox daily prior to every autopsy for localization of foreign bodies and injuries to soft tissue and bone. While talking with Angalena and colleague Dr. Francisco Diaz of our Detroit installation, both made statements of how the Lodox Full-Body coverage and ease of use provide a “Peace of Mind” that ensures they can “sleep well” knowing the Lodox imaging is there to back-up their respective findings long after the case leaves just as DNA and Histology evidence does. “Before the Lodox it was hard to trust that you were able to image everything. Now we see everything AND it is easier than before.”
Unfortunately, the moniker “The Big Easy” is already taken by this jewel of a city, but it is just as fitting as our “miss nothing… faster” in our opinion. The end of the show rang in the start of Mardis Gras celebrations on Friday that would continue until Fat Tuesday a week and a half later. Definitely a show to remember!!
